Diane Davis:
Helping Struggling Readers Build Confidence And Read Independently

If you're reading this About Me page, there's a good chance you're looking for real reading help — not more frustration, guesswork, or discouraging experiences. I'm Diane Davis, and I work with children, teens, and adults who need support building the skills and confidence to read on their own.

For more than 20 years, I’ve taught reading with one main goal in mind: helping students become confident, independent readers. That means more than improving a test score. It means being able to enjoy a book, follow instructions, keep up in school, or handle everyday reading with less stress and more confidence.

Who I Help

I work with readers age 6 and up, including teenagers and adults. Many of my students have struggled for years and need a different kind of support than they’ve received in school.

I also work with students with reading disabilities and with families who know their child is capable yet needs focused, effective instruction. My goal is to meet each student where they are and help them make steady, meaningful progress.

How I Help

Reading struggles affect more than academics. They can shape how a person sees themselves.

That’s why my work focuses not only on reading skills but also on confidence. With synthetic phonics, I help students strengthen the foundations they need so they can read more independently and feel more capable doing it. In my program, I teach all the phonetic rules and give students reminder cards that they can keep. As their skills improve, so does their willingness to try, participate, and keep going.

Every student is different, but the aim is the same: to help them become a stronger, more confident reader who can do more on their own.

Experience And Results

I bring both experience and proven training to this work.

  • 20 years of experience teaching reading
  • Certificate through the Academic Associates Reading Course
  • Experience working with students from ages 6 to 84
  • Experience supporting students with reading disabilities
  • Students average 2 or more grade levels of reading growth

These results matter because reading progress changes everyday life. When students begin to read more independently, they often become more confident in school, at home, and in how they see themselves.

Why I Do This Work

This work comes from a simple belief: children deserve the chance to succeed in reading.

Over the years, I’ve seen how deeply reading struggles can affect confidence, motivation, and daily life. I teach reading one-on-one because I want families and learners to have another option — one built on patience, experience, and the belief that progress is possible.

Reading opens doors. When a student begins to believe, "I can do this," that confidence carries into other parts of life too. This matters to me.
